ABOUT DRYSTAMP

A receipt is not
a record.

Drystamp exists because the hard part of a deduction is not the receipt. It is everything the receipt does not say.

The problem we picked

A photograph of a lunch bill proves an amount, a date and a merchant. What it cannot prove is who you were with, how you know them, or what the business purpose was. Those are the elements IRC 274(d) actually asks for, and they are the ones that are missing when somebody asks about a deduction years later.

Most tools in this space solve the easy half. They read the receipt, file it, and stop. Drystamp reads the receipt and then tells you what is still missing, while you can still remember the answer.

What we will not do

Three rules shape the product more than any feature does.

It will not invent your substantiation

When the assistant offers to fill a gap, every value it proposes is quoted from something you actually wrote, and the quote is shown underneath it. A business purpose the software made up is not substantiation, it is a liability with a Confirm button. If we cannot cite your own words, we offer nothing.

It will not answer without a source

Answers cite the rule they came from, and where the reference material does not cover your question, the product says so and points you to a professional instead of guessing.

It is not tax advice

Drystamp does not prepare returns, does not file them, and is not a substitute for a CPA or an enrolled agent. It keeps records and explains rules. You remain responsible for your return, and our reference material is still awaiting professional review, which we disclose on every answer rather than in a footer.

Who makes it

Drystamp is built by Datamart Inc., a California company. It is a small team, and the founder reads the support mail. If something is wrong, saying so tends to reach the person who can change it.

How we handle your records

Receipt images are the documentary evidence behind every figure, so they are kept encrypted rather than discarded after reading, and they are kept for long enough to be useful if anybody asks: the assessment period runs to six years for a substantial understatement. Records belong to your organisation, and businesses inside one account are kept strictly apart, which is what makes it safe to give your accountant one of them and not the rest.
